An individualized treatment plan, including evaluation and instruction on physical activity, nutrition, stress management, and other health-related areas. If you have one of the following diagnoses, you may be eligible to participate:
Our comprehensive program at Health First Heart & Vascular Services consists of three phases designed to meet your individual needs with education, exercise and support.
Our Inpatient Program is just the beginning — Inpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation includes education and supervised activity for hospital patients recovering from a cardiac illness.
Exercise, education and teamwork to get you on the right track - Our outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation includes electrocardiogram (ECG) heart-monitored exercise training, education, and counseling to help individuals understand their heart condition and to find ways to reduce the risk of future heart problems. Generally, one-hour classes are held three times per week for up to 36 visits.
Take charge of your continuing Cardiac Rehabilitation — After the completion of Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation, our team can help you make the transition to an exercise program at a Health First Pro-Health & Fitness Center near you. We will collaborate with the staff to coordinate an orientation program designed to meet your continued cardiac fitness goals.
Our staff uses a multidisciplinary team approach. Members include nurses, exercise physiologists, dieticians, and social workers as well as physical or occupational therapists. Your physician will be involved at all phases of Cardiac Rehabilitation on a regular basis.
Cardiac patients who’ve elected to receive rehabilitative therapy, including exercise training, education, and behavioral interventions, are more likely to achieve and maintain optimal health. The Cardiac Rehabilitation staff at Health First Heart & Vascular Services encourages you to speak to your physician about how you may benefit from our services.
How do I get started?
A physician referral and insurance preauthorization may be required. Health First accepts most insurance plans. A co-payment may be required for each session.
What do I need before I exercise?
Wear comfortable, cool clothing that is appropriate for exercise. Supportive closed toe walking shoes are necessary for your safety and comfort. Allow 1-2 hours between eating and exercise. Do not smoke or consume caffeinated beverages prior to exercise. If you are diabetic, please be sure to bring your glucometer and supplies.
What kind of exercise will I be doing?
Initially, you will be connected to an ECG monitor while you exercise so your heart rate and rhythms are closely watched. You may exercise on treadmills and recumbent bikes, lift free weights, or use resistance bands.
