Health First - Holmes Regional Medical Center

Program Overview

The Pharmacy Department at Holmes Regional Medical Center is pleased to offer an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited 12-month PGY1 pharmacy residency program. Holmes Regional Medical Center has over 500 inpatient beds, a Level II trauma center and a Level II neonatal ICU and is a primary stroke center. Pharmacy services are integrated throughout the hospital. Pharmacists are involved in medication order entry, preparation delivery, quality improvement projects, drug therapy recommendations, therapeutic drug monitoring, drug information requests, multidisciplinary patient care rounds and the outpatient anticoagulation clinic.

The residency program is a comprehensive program that includes multiple aspects of pharmacy practice. The program is designed to assist the resident in developing expert skills and competency in providing quality pharmaceutical care to a variety of patient populations. Learning experiences include both required core rotations as well as elective rotations scheduled throughout the year to help the resident further personalize the residency to meet their goals. Over the course of the residency year, residents will gain professional confidence and leadership skills through participation in a multidisciplinary approach to patient care. Through these experiences the PGY1 residency program prepares graduates to become independent, well-rounded clinicians, pursue a PGY2 in a specialized area and serve as a preceptor for pharmacy students.
